These long-eared bats appeared suddenly.......

Long-eared bats swarming

During a summer-long project using CCTV to monitor barbastelle bats (Barbastella barbastellus) at a maternity roost, the brown long-eared bats (Plecotus auritus) suddenly appeared one night and swarmed round the roost tree that the barbastelle bats had vacated. They swarmed for a minute then disappeared just as suddenly. Long-eared bats are easy to identify as the long ears are very clear and they have a fluttering flight near the roost.
